Learning About Allergies and Asthma

Hello, my name is Rodney Turner. Welcome to my website about allergies and asthma. As a kid, I could not go through the spring months without suffering from back to back asthma attacks. The asthma attacks usually started when my pollen allergies flared up. As doctors linked these two conditions, I was given medication to better control my attacks and improve my health. On this site, I will explore the link between allergies and asthma, plus talk about the treatments available for both of these conditions. Please feel free to visit my site daily to arm yourself with the knowledge you need to overcome allergies and asthma. Thanks.

4 Tips To Help You Prepare For A Colonoscopy Procedure

You might need to undergo a colonoscopy procedure when you have stomach discomfort. Your physician will examine your colon for wounds, abrasions, and internal bleeding.

Typically, the procedure lasts 30-60 minutes. This time does not cover the preparation and recovery period.

A colonoscopy procedure is minor, but it can cause some slight discomfort. Be well prepared mentally and physically before undergoing it.

Here are some tips to help you prepare for the procedure.

1. Speak to Your Doctor About the Procedure

Before taking the test, ask your doctor to explain what will happen from the beginning to the end.

Having this conversation with your doctor will prepare you mentally. It will help you prepare your body for the procedure and avoid nasty surprises.

2. Follow a Special Diet in Readiness for the Procedure

Your doctor will advise that you don't take any solid foods the day before the test to keep the colon empty. They will use a slim tube with a camera inside your colon to study it. If you eat before the procedure, solid waste will obstruct the camera.

The doctor will also ask you to drink only plain liquids. You can take water, tea, or coffee without milk or cream, soup, and carbonated beverages. The drinks will help you stay full and clean the colon in readiness for the procedure. Additionally, the physician will tell you not to drink red liquids that might look like blood.

They will also ask you not to eat or drink anything after midnight the night before the procedure.

3. Take a Laxative

The doctor must work with a clean colon for the colonoscopy results to be accurate. You'll have to take a prescription laxative (a pill or liquid) to help you empty your colon. You should take the laxative the night and morning before the colonoscopy.

Remember to drink lots of water to stay hydrated after taking it.

4. Adjust Your Medication Calendar

Ask your doctor to help you adjust your medication at least a week before the exam. This practice is crucial for people with hypertension, diabetes, and cardiovascular problems. You should also adjust your medication if you take supplements containing iron.

Remember to inform your doctor of any other medication you take. Such information is vital to rule out any risk factors during the procedure.

Have a designated driver drive you home after the procedure. You may be drowsy from the pre-procedure medication and must rest.
