Learning About Allergies and Asthma

Hello, my name is Rodney Turner. Welcome to my website about allergies and asthma. As a kid, I could not go through the spring months without suffering from back to back asthma attacks. The asthma attacks usually started when my pollen allergies flared up. As doctors linked these two conditions, I was given medication to better control my attacks and improve my health. On this site, I will explore the link between allergies and asthma, plus talk about the treatments available for both of these conditions. Please feel free to visit my site daily to arm yourself with the knowledge you need to overcome allergies and asthma. Thanks.

3 Things To Control Your Asthma If You Have Pets

If you have both asthma and pets, you may end up having attacks triggered by your pets. But if you don't want to get rid of your pets, there are things that you can do that will help you keep your pets without having asthma attacks.

Keep Your Pets off Your Bed

You may want to cuddle your pets at night so that you can get all those wonderful puppy or kitten kisses. The problem is that means that their hair and dander can get all over your bed and when you go to sleep and lay your head on your pillow for all those hours, you are getting that all over your face and body, which may trigger an asthma attack. If you have problems with keeping them off the bed during the day, you can put a large sheet over the bed that will cover everything on your bed. Then you can take that off the bed to go to sleep. Doing that will help to avoid the hair and dander.

Get an Air Purifier

Another thing you can do is to get an air purifier. There are various sizes, and you should have no problems finding a purifier that is small enough for each room, or a larger one that will be big enough to cover a few rooms at a time. The air purifier will suck in the room air, run it past several different filters so that any particulates and allergens get caught up in them, and then blow the air back out. Many of these purifiers have HEPA filters, which mean that they are able to catch teeny tiny allergens. That should help you get rid of anything that can trigger an asthma attack.

Visit an Allergist

Another thing you can do is to visit an allergist. The allergist will test you to make sure that you are allergic to your pets. If you are, then they will help you with that. They can do that by giving you allergy pills that you can take every day that will control your allergies. Another option is for you to get shots monthly. They will also help you with your allergies and give you long-term relief.

If you love your pets and you have asthma, you may end up having asthma attacks. There are things that you can do that will keep your asthma and allergies under control. For more information, visit establishments like The Regional Allergy Asthma & Immunology Center, PC.
